It’s always a treat to photograph events on Maui for the Honolulu Star Advertiser. Here are a few photos from the Couture Hawaii Fashion show last Saturday at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center. It was hosted by Andy South from Project Runway, featuring clothing designed by Anne Namba, Bernard Foong, Maggie Coulumbe, as well as students from the University of Hawaii.
The event was to celebrate the opening of Alfred Shaheen’s exhibit: Fabric to Fashion in the Maui Arts and Cultural gallery. Alfred Shaheen was a major contributor to Aloha wear and introduced textile and design to Hawaii in the 40s and 50’s.
The event was organized and designed by Cherisse Nichole of VIP Style.
Electronic dance music spun by DJ CIA
Hair: Thee Salon in Paia
Makeup Artists: Jessica Waite, Kahulani and Ry-n Shimabuku
It’s exciting to see a fashion show of this caliber here on the island!
