What’s better than newlyweds in love? Newlyweds honeymooning in a tropical paradise in the middle of the Pacific ocean!

When I first spoke with Lindsey and Matt, they told me they were up for anything, which I love. There is a great adventurous spirit about the two of them. And when she said she wanted to wear her wedding dress and jump into the ocean, I knew we would have an awesome photo session.

Living on Maui, it must be said, we have some incredible light. And on this particular day, we were blessed with the most amazingly colorful sunset. I just kept staring out to the horizon, watching the clouds turning these vibrant, bright colors. To be able to photograph such a lovely couple, in these lighting conditions, is truly a photographer’s dream.

Congratulations, Lindsey & Matt!

The day after Amanda and Andrew’s wedding, we decided to photograph the two of them on the south side of Maui. It was one of those rare days where it was down-pouring all over the island. We drove down to the southernmost part of Maui and just barely managed to escape the rain. During the session, we continually came across heart-shaped objects, from cacti to coral, that mother nature had left in our path. What a romantic honeymoon session!

Honeymoon sessions are something I really cannot get enough of. There’s nothing better than taking photos of couples who are relaxed, happy and riding the high of being newly married.

Jackie and Danny were no exception. They flew from Florida to tie the knot on a lovely Maui beach. They first visited Kauai before heading to Maui, and ended up stranded in Haleiwa due to a bridge being flooded out for a few days from all the rainfall. They actually had to reschedule their wedding — although of course that’s a great place to be stranded.

The day after the wedding, I photographed the two of them on the North Shore of Maui.

Their love is electric…congratulations, Jackie and Danny!

Two days after Carrie and Andy’s Maui wedding, they decided to follow it up with a honeymoon session. I am so glad they decided on doing another shoot, because we were able to get a variety of shots on the North Shore of Maui ~ one of my absolute favorite places for photography on the island.

There is a certain je ne sais quoi about photographing a couple after their wedding. After all the stresses of planning a destination wedding, and the excitement of the actual wedding day, it’s great to have time after the wedding where the couple is blissed out, relaxed, and of course, sun-kissed. I honestly believe that every newlywed should have a Honeymoon or Trash the Dress Session simply because those moments are truly once-in-a-lifetime, and priceless to capture.

Stephanie & Lance were married in a lovely seaside ceremony a few days prior. She was wearing an exquisite gold dress for her honeymoon session, but as soon as we arrived at the location for the shoot, she decided to change into her wedding dress. I am so glad she did, she looks insanely gorgeous in it. Here are some of my favorite photos from their Trash the Dress session.

Katie and Matt are newlyweds living on Oahu. They got married in Chicago two months ago, among family and friends and decided to have a last minute honeymoon at The Fairmont Kea Lani Maui before Matt is deployed to Iraq. He is leaving for an entire year, in just a few short days. It breaks my heart to think about being apart from my husband Elan for more than a week, let alone an entire year. It also makes me appreciate even more the profound sacrifices our troops and their families make for the safety of our country.

Katie & Matt wanted to document this happy time in their lives, and I really enjoyed photographing them.

Amber & Josh are quite the romantic duo. I instantly felt a connection with them. They are both silly & fun-loving, and I could have talked with them all night had we not had to worry about the sun setting for the photo session. I was also really impressed with Amber’s determination. When she sets her mind on something, she does it. She was living in Florida and was hoping to move elsewhere. She flew to Los Angeles to “check out the city” but I really think it was to “check out Josh.” They hit it off right away. A few weeks later she returned to Florida, having decided to move to LA. Josh flew to Florida with his dog and helped Amber pack her belongings into her car to drive across the country for the move. The rest is history. I am secretly (okay, not secretly — I’ve voiced it quite a number of times) hoping that they follow suit and move to Maui. The more West the better, right?

This honeymoon photo session was a sweet wedding present from Sarah Cowperthwaite. Sarah has known Josh for over 14 years and was thrilled when he met the love of his life, Amber.

Congratulations Amber & Josh! I’m looking forward to having you as neighbors. I found the perfect house in my neighborhood–and yes, it has 3 bedrooms because Sarah needs an office, right?

G & Phil spent their honeymoon on Maui at the Marriot Wailea. The day after I returned from WPPI we set up a honeymoon shoot. It was a good thing because it was one of their first times venturing outside their resort. I can’t blame them too much, they were on their honeymoon after all. Here are some photos from their last day on Maui.

I found a plumeria so G could wear it behind her ear.
I caught this brief moment of her taking in the fragrant scent of the flower for the first time.

Cara and Dom met in August of 2008 in Block Island, RI. They had been planning a destination wedding in Cancun, Mexico for last November. Anyone who has ever planned a destination wedding knows how incredibly difficult it can be at times. With these two, it was no exception. Their wedding planner passed away two weeks before the wedding. There was a hurricane the week before the wedding, which wiped out the beach they had been planning to get married at. The swine flu broke out and people were scared of traveling to Mexico. And sadly, their wedding photographer was hit by a car the Friday before the wedding so they were left without a photographer. Finally, the person who ended up filling in last minute was not experienced with a camera and most of the pictures turned out dark and under exposed.

In spite of all the tragedy and mishaps, they were able to relax and enjoy their honeymoon in Maui and some of the other Hawaiian islands. A group of photographers, myself included, were able to capture some lovely moments of the two of them on Maui.
